Every time I log onto Art Fight and finally push through my art block to draw for someone, I end the day seeing another rant on the subreddit. At this point it’s honestly exhausting. As someone doing Art Fight for the second time, it makes me wonder if I even want to be part of the community sometimes.
It feels like some people only want fully rendered, full-body digital masterpieces, and that completely misses the point of art. The point is creativity.
People have every right to complain about point farming or spam attacks. I get that. But when people start complaining about half bodies, traditional art, bracelets inspired by a character, or other creative interpretations, it starts limiting what people feel “allowed” to make.
Not everyone has the same skills, time, money, or access to digital art. Some people only have paper and pencils. Some people are still learning. Some people struggle with art block but still put their heart into making something for your character.
What bothers me is that it feels like people just want free art without thinking about the time, effort, or care someone put into creating something inspired by their OC. I didn’t always have art supplies growing up, and I’ve struggled with loving my own art for years. Seeing people dismiss genuine effort because it isn’t a polished digital illustration is honestly sad.
Art is art. It has different forms, different meanings, and different ways of expressing creativity. Art Fight is supposed to be about sharing your work, meeting people, and having fun. If everyone keeps complaining about anything that isn’t a fully rendered digital piece, eventually creativity gets pushed away.
I’m saying this as a digital artist too. I love digital art, but I also love seeing people create with markers, pencils, beads, clay, crafts, or anything else. That’s what makes art exciting. It’s different for everyone, and I really wish more people appreciated that.
